This school was built by Mr N W Frogly and completed in 1883: Mrs Mary Maddicks was the first teacher and she lived in the four-room house which is attached to the classroom. In 1901 a new classroom was added in a sympathetic way using similar materials to the original classroom. In 1904 the verandahs to the teacher's house had some weatherboard alterations and additions but these additions have since been removed. A large polychromatic brick building designed by H R Bastow, Chief Architect, Education Department of Victoria and built in 1877-78. The design is similar to the Williamstown School No 1183 although that building was erected in Basalt. File note 20/09/2012: Following the Education Act of 1872 and the amalgamation of the Anglican and Presbyterian Common Schools in 1873, construction of this building was started and then completed in 1874 at a cost of £3,000. One of the last surviving nineteenth-century buildings in what was once the largest town in Gippsland, this one-room brick school was erected in 1877 to accommodate 100 pupils.
